Public Art.
Christian Cutler accepted an invitation to join the Warrensburg Arts Commission (WAC) in 2012. As a commissioner with WAC, he managed multiple public art projects across the city. Most notable are the etched concrete circle on Pine Street entitled “Downtown Vibrations” and the “Bobbers” sculpture project at Lion’s Lake.
“Downtown Vibrations” was designed by Ohio artist John Sunami. WAC selected Sunami’s entry to be etched into the sidewalk on Pine Street in downtown Warrensburg. “Downtown Vibrations” was dedicated in October 2013.
“Bobbers” was conceived by Cutler and sculptor Justin Shaw. Shaw completed “Bobbers” in 2014, and the sculptures were dedicated in April 2015.
In addition to his work on the city’s arts commission, Cutler is the steward of the University of Central Missouri’s outdoor sculpture collection and permanent art collection. In 2013, he began a campaign to restore and relocate a 6′ x 6′ stained glass window entitled “Five Wise and Five Foolish Virgins” by Kansas City artist Gabriella Polony-Mountain. The window was original to a 1960s dormitory common room and in need of a complete restoration by stained glass professionals. In the spring of 2015, “Five Wise and Five Foolish Virgins” was relocated to UCM’s James C. Kirkpatrick Library. That May, the window was rededicated with 97-year-old Polony-Mountain in attendance.
